Charleston Escape

In efforts to inaugurate the arrival of Spring and escape the rainy weekend in Charlotte, Giorgia and I decided at the last minute to drive down to Charleston.  We were so happy with our decision after spending a fabulous weekend among the sun-filled city and with our good friends James, Inmar, and little CJ who were such gracious hosts to allow us to stay in their lovely home.  Thanks again to Heath for the amazing dinner on Saturday night!

Pasqua in Belgio

Io, la mamma, Corina, Lili, Winston, Zio, Zia, Anthony and Isabella abbiamo tutti viaggiato per raggiungere la famiglia in Belgio per pasqua e per festeggiare gli 80 anni della nonna e il compleanno di Isabella pure.  Che bello e' stato rivedere tutti e di stare insieme sopratutto fra i cugini. 

Birthday Celebrations 

After 2 months of planning and organization, the day of Shanta's baby shower finally came. It was composed of many friends and family who showered Shanta' and Eric with gifts for the little baby.  There were 5 dozen balloons, all different shades of pink, a  delicious and pink "baby" cake, pink fruit punch, mimosas, and homemade lasagna by me, (la sottoscritta) thanks to mamma who helped me make them Friday night after work.  GRAZIE ANCORA MAMMA!  The shower was a great success and I was very happy to organize it for one of my best friends. 

Natale 2007 - Auguri!

It was a lovely and peaceful Christmas at home with my family. There is never a dull moment when we are all together, between all the cooking, eating, entertaining, celebrating and simply just relaxing during our days off for the holidays. The one who enjoys relaxing the most, the one with the most "dolce vita"  of all is Maximus.  To all my friends and family, may this Christmas be full of joy, peace, and tranquility.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT . . . 

At the office we are serious and focused, but we can also be fun and crazy for the occassional "weekday" night out.  The girls from the office had a great time out together on this particular Wednesday evening uptown.

Il 20 di novembre e' stato un giorno di immensa tristezza per me e per tutti coloro che conoscevano Beppe.  Oltre che un collaboratore di lavoro, Beppe era anche un caro amico con chi si divideva molte cose in comune.  E' veramente difficile immaginare questo mondo senza di lui.  Beppe, mi manchi e mi mancherai tantissimo.

November 3, 2007 - Phoenix, AZ - Shanta's Wedding

Amidst Arizona's arid desert and ardent temperatures, yet another one of my best friends, Shanta' had a fabulous wedding. Shanta' was a beautiful bride and Candace, Misty, and myself were happy to be the crazy "unofficial" bridesmaids who had a lot of fun.  It was lovely to see Shanta' and her entire family and to be a part of her special day.  I am very happy for Shanta', Eric, Garrett, and baby who is on her way! 

October 21, 2007 - Undefeated Champions - Hickory, NC

Another successful soccer season for Anthony has finished and his team took home the trophy as undefeated champions.  Anthony was a great asset to his teammates, scoring over 10 goals throughout the 8 game season.  I am extremely proud of my godson who is demonstrating "Kaka'" like qualities on the field.  Anthony has many fans, ranging from the quintessential soccer mom and dad who are very supportive of his soccer training to  Maximus who enjoys lounging  on the field.  Our Saturday's wouldn't be complete without Anthony's soccer games! 

12 ottobre 2007 - Connecticut - Sposa bagnata, sposa fortunata? 

Tutta la mattinata diluviava...poi, appena in tempo per il matrimonio della mia grande amica Susanna, il cielo si e'  schiarito e le nuvole hanno fatto spazio per i raggi di sole splendenti che hanno illuminato la cerimonia.  Il tempo trascorso insieme con Susanna e la sua famiglia e' stato divertente e piacevole.  Alla fine, la bellissima sposa non si e' bagnata, ma la fortuna rimane comunque.  Sono super contenta per Susanna e Ben!!  Congratulazioni ragazzi!

365 days of:

Not searching for nonexistent parking spaces along the Arno, not getting perpetually stuck in traffic on the Florentine "tangenziale", not eating pasta constantly, not stopping in every shoe store in Via Tornabuoni, not walking to the corner "alimentari" in stinky Via de' Neri for daily groceries and carrying the heavy bags back to the apartment, not winding your way through crowds of tourists to get to the office every morning, not walking over the old, uneven cobblestone roads to get from one place to the next, not having to make the difficult choice of what to choose on Osteria de' Benci's delicious menu, and not having to watch boring Italian television every evening .............................YEAH, I would say there is plenty to celebrate on this anniversary. 

6a giornata  . . .

6a giornata means the Italian Soccer League completed its 6th day of competition over the weekend.  It seems the games are moving along and falling into their normal outcomes.  Let's see, Juventus is right in sync with their "luck" in making a goal right at the last minute.  Amelia seems to think that his good looks are enough to keep the ball from entering his goal 3 times! What else could we have expected from Livorno who is last in the standings.   Inzaghi finally gets his first goal of the season, but, suprisingly it is off side.  Inter and its 4 "C"s Crespo, Cruz, Cordoba, and Cesar proved themselves to be the best in the league against Roma .  Essentially, not an atypical day in the world of  Serie A.

Lo detto, ridetto e lo diro' sempre che fra tutti i 12,  il mese di ottobre e' il mio preferito in assoluto.  Aparte le  giornate gloriose senza una nuvola e le temperature giuste, mi piace il cambiamento della staggione che, in questo'anno particolarmente, si abbina molto bene ai cambiamenti della mia vita.

September 3, 2007 - Milan Fiorentina

Prandelli mi e' sempre stato simpatico ma la sua squadra senza Toni, non e' affatto affascinante quanto prima.  Il Milan pero' e' sempre grande con le sue traettorie magiche e  i suoi rigori infallibili.  Il pareggio non e' stato una sorpresa ma non importa perche' il campionato e' lungo ancora. 

August 2007 - Summer Summary

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times", just as Charles Dickens began his famous work A Tale of Two Cities, for several reasons this is the same way I summarize my summer of 2007.  The best was all the quality time spent under the same roof with my family.  Living in Italy the last several years, I missed my family and I now feel that this summer gave me the chance to make up for the time I spent far away from them.   Conversely, the worst was having to adapt to a new way of spending my summer differently from the usual Italian summer vacation I was accustomed to.

August 10 - 14 - Paula's 30th Birthday Visit

My good friend Paula "dormigliona" finally came to visit me the last four days from Mexico.  It is now official that we are both 30 years old as she celebrated her birthday here with me yesterday.  She requested a strawberry birthday cake and I baked her the most fabulous, tasty cake that we paired with champagne on Monday evening.  We had to buy 2 boxes of candles in order to have enough to put on the cake!  Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were composed of:  going out in Charlotte, dancing and meeting hilarious boys, shopping for things that you can't find in Mexico, and of course, a relaxing beauty day of massages, manis and pedis.  Its's not everyday you turn 30 right?  Happy Birthday Paula!

July 22 - August 15 - Laurent and Leslie

It has been quite nice  to have the company of my newlywed cousin Leslie and her husband, Laurent  visiting the last 3 weeks.   We have been "immense tavolate" of 25 people every weekend.   Luckily I have had lots of experience in cooking 1.5 kilos of pasta at at a time thanks to a very exclusive cooking school called "Piandisco" in Tuscany.  In three weeks our household has abundantly contributed to the 3rd quarter gross profits of the following international companies:  Barilla, Corona, Heineken, Illy, Apple/Mac, Jack Daniels, Bacardi, Coca-Cola, Nivea, Pizbuin, Harris Teeter, Gap, Old Navy, Adidas, and Sam's Club.   It was fun to spend time with family that lives so far away.   

July 10 -July 12 - New York Trip

Two days in New York is like 2 weeks here in the South or anywhere else for that matter.  The trip was very short, but filled with back to back appointments, reservations, concerts, and  activities.  It was never a dull moment in New York especially with Lili!  Thanks to everyone with whom I met and collaborated for future projects. 

July 3, 2007 - Out with Shanta'

Shanta' was home visiting from Arizona and we got a head start on the July 4th celebration by going out to dinner on Lake Norman Tuesday night.  It was so nice to meet Eric, and see Candace and Jennifer again.  I also met Cathrine and her huband from Charlotte  and Misty and Gary who were all "super simpatici".  After dinner we all had drinks at Birkdale Village before heading home at an atypically decent hour. 

June 30, 2007 - Zio Robert's Birthday

Yet another birthday party weekend here at home.  This time we celebrated zio Robert's birthday and the celebration lasted well into Sunday as well.  Lili and Winston were back from New York, Suzanne was here and Toto and Fabienne were still here taking advantage of their last days of shopping in the USA.  It was another fun-filled weekend with balloons, birthday cake, champagne, food, drinks, sunshine, family, and friends.   

June 27 - July 1 - Suzanne's Visit

Needless to say that when Suzanne and I are together all we do is laugh and have the greatest time.  These four days were no different.  From our spa afternoon, drinks and dinner in Charlotte, and parties here at home, we had so much fun and created a lot of new memories to add to our 10 year friendship. 

le 18 juin - Zio Toto et Fabienne Chez Nous

Zio Toto et Fabienne sont bien arrives chez nous.  Zio a dit  "je suis tres heureux de revoir mes nieces, mon frere, ma soeur, Maximus, et les oiseux."  Bienvenu et bon sejours! 

10 Giugno - Symphony in the Park - Charlotte, NC

Sulla terrazza di Village Tavern domenica sera, la musica era (per la maggior parte) italiana o austriaca, le insalate erano asiatiche, il vino californiano, e la compagnia italiana.   Elementi che tutto sommato, hanno reso la serata serena e piacevole. 

June 1 - 2, 2007 - Corina's Birthday Weekend - Conover, NC

After the arrival of many out of town friends and guests, our home was full of people all weekend long to celebrate Corina.  Lisa and Winston arrived from New York.  Beautiful Converse from Charleston was here and introduced us to her friend Mike from Charlotte, who we all enjoyed meeting.  Sumer brought her family and little baby Ava was adored by everyone.  Of course, Anthony and Isabella did not fail to entertain us with their dancing and diving skills.  Lots of people, lots of balloons, lots of food, lots of music, all in all, it was a fun-filled, "guidiliscious" weekend. 

May 31, 2007 - Corina's Birthday Dinner Charlotte, NC

C, you are 29 now!  Happy Birthday.  Corina, Daniel, Mom and myself all enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the restaurant Fiamma last night.  It was a great time.  Now, we have to get busy and get ready for her Pool Party all day tomorrow.  Busy busy!

Maggio 2007 - Ritorno in Italia

Voglio ringraziare tutti i miei amici tra  Vicenza e Milano per il bellissimo soggiorno che mi avete concesso la settimana scorsa.  Cosa non era perfetto?  Il bel tempo, le cene,  la partita, gli aperitivi, il mare, lo shopping, gli incontri di nuovi e vecchi amici, i giri nella macchina decapotabile col sole sul viso, il gelato, i miei vini preferiti, tutto e' stato piu' che perfetto. Ringrazio particolarmente Simone, Andrea, e Enrico per la ottima cena dove nemmeno la mia stanchezza del viaggio ci ha impedito di divertirci tantissimo.  Ange, per avermi ospitato ancora una volta, mi fai sempre sentire a casa mia. Barbi per la gita dello shopping, siamo "Cavalliate" quest'estate.  Simo, per le chiacchierate importanti e le risate che mi hai fatto fare.  A Sandra, Tami, e Alessia che bello di rivederci e stare insieme.  Gianna, eri la piu' lontana cara, ma ci siamo sentite tutti giorni e questo mi ha fatto immensamente piacere.  Ai miei compagni Milanisti, vi ringrazio infinitamente per la giornata allo stadio e avevo detto che per Atene non c'era da preoccuparsi!   Alle mie amiche a Firenze, sapete precisamente chi siete, ci vediamo presto.  Un bacione a tutti! 

May 12, 2007 - Soccer Tournament Ashville, NC

Surrounded by the beautiful green mountains, my god son Anthony scored a total of 7 goals over  three different games of  this tournament.  His team took home the trophy.  Anthony is a fantastic at both mid-field and striker.  I am so proud of him and his accomplishments this soccer season!  Love, your Marraine

May 9, 2007 - Milan in Champions League Final!

Knowing that I am a huge "Milanista", an acquaintance from Italy wrote to me in a text message that history is repeating itself since the final  is between Milan and Liverpool as it was in 2005.  I, on the other hand, strongly disagree as there will be two major differences this year.  First,  instead of eating "crostini toscani" and watching the game at 8:45pm with just one other person, I will be hosting a  Champions League Final Pool Party on a sunny afternoon surrounded by red and black balloons and eating delicious ribs from Longhorns. And second, the winner is not going to be the same as last time!  This year the "rossoneri" win it all!

April 16 2007 - Easter is over . . .

After spending 4 days in Mexico over the Easter holiday, I return doubting if the famous "buena onda" that everyones speaks of is really that "buena" of an "onda".  The weather was excellent and the water was perfect from the color to the temperature.  I was visiting my great friend Paula with whom we had many unforgettable instances!  Where do I start?  Our Jeep Wrangler's clutch completely broke on the highway between Quintana Roo and Yucatan.   We were "invitadas" to the most exclusive beach clubs in Cancun where we spent very relaxing days.  Our conversations ranged from the difference in lifestyle between Europe and North America to how it feels to both be turning 30 years old this year.  Paula adamantly admitted that once she turned 29, she felt compelled to start lying about her age!  Needless to say, all of this was accompanied by numerous "cheladas" and "coronas".  So, to sum it all up, a beautiful beach, hot weather, great food and drinks, and most importantly, the company of one of your best friends, does equal to be  a "buena onda".  Sometimes, you just have bad luck mixed in with it. 

March 21, 2007 - First day of Spring

The new season has finally caught up with daylight savings time.  Daffodils, cherry blossoms, and wisteria are in full bloom in our beautiful Carolinas, a clear indication that a furniture market is right around the corner.  Next week, March 26 - 29, the Spring International  Home Furnishings Market will take place in Hight Point, NC. 

The first day of Spring also means that my little cousin Isabella just had a birthday and since she has insisted on celebrating all week long, I want to wish her Happy Birthday again!  I love you Isabellina!  

February 14, Trend Selection - New York City

On February 14, right in the middle of the winter snow blast, I visited the warm and charming Altman Building where Trend Selection takes place.  Here, I saw  the first wave of  the upcoming styles and colors  for Summer 2008.  Color pallets were categorized as dazzling pale, deep neon, fresh and juicy, and dry and dehydrated.  All the shades called  to our sense of taste as they were reminiscent of our favorite summer time food such as chiodini mushroom tops, mussel shells, grapefruits, and onions.  Printed leathers "andavano a ruba" as we say in Italian. They were by far the most popular ranging in designs from large camelia flowers, ornate baroque tapestries, to geometric shapes. Summer 2008 is sure to satisfy even the most voracious appetites with its delicious colors and delightful textures.
